Food For Thought

We are created beings made in God’s image. This in itself is an amazing thing to ponder upon. What does God (Yahweh) look like? On the sixth day of creation in Genesis 1:26 God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.” Then in Genesis 1:29 God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” Many have contemplated about food and God’s original intent for our nourishment. I like to think that the “Law of first mention” is usually very important in the Bible. God created man and then the next thing He did was inform him what he was to eat. I don’t think this is a theological issue; God did tell us we could eat “clean” meat after the flood but given the fact that in Genesis 1:29 He listed that every green plant was to be food for us, it would seem that those foods are quite important.

Adam had the privilege of naming everything. Studying the Bible opens your mind to explore God’s meaning or original intent and allows us to search the scriptures for clues. What if God marked our plants, herbs and objects with a sign or signature for each purpose? Many plants resemble human body-parts. God gives us so many clues to His amazing thought processes as we look at all of His creation. Look at the variety of animals; their instincts, their food choices and the fact that you never see overweight animals in God’s Kingdom, unless man is feeding them such is the case with domestic pets.

Let’s consider some of the foods that God created and the body part that it resembles.

Carrots – Slice a carrot and look at its intricate design pattern. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye. Science has proved that carrots enhance blood flow to the eyes. The most efficient way to consume this food wonder is through juicing. You will consume about 90-92% of its nutrients when juiced. Carrots contain beta-carotene, an antioxidant that converts to Vitamin A, an important nutrient that greatly enhances blood flow and function of the eyes.

Tomatoes – It is red and has four chambers. The heart is red and research shows that tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food and are loaded with lycopene.

Walnuts – Open up this little wonder and you are looking at a miniature brain – the left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. Walnuts help develop over three dozen neuron-transmitters and they supply Omega 3’s which help to make our brain function properly. One-quarter cup supplies our daily DHA needs.

Kidney Beans – This one shouldn’t be too hard to figure out. These beans actually help maintain kidney function and even look like our kidneys.

Avocados, Eggplant and Pears – They target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female and look just like these organs.

Figs – Are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes – look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives – Assist the health and function of the ovaries.

Oranges, Grapefruits and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions – Look like the body’s cells. Research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes

Garlic – Works as a companion to the onion in that it helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Even flowers have purpose. The petals of the Iris were commonly used as a poultice for bruising because of their color. The petals resemble the hue of the bruise they were to alleviate.

You probably have heard the expression, “You Are What You Eat” and given the examples above it would behoove us to eat more of these natural foods in more abundance. The average person on the Standard American Diet (we lovingly call the SAD Diet) goes one to two weeks before eating anything raw and living. It is doubtful that there are miraculous signs and patterns in some of the things people eat; like potato chips, candy, soda, French fries or other junk foods.

Our God is an awesome God. I believe that every created thing has true purpose, intent; and He wants us to discover how amazing the world He created for us to live in actually is. The foods He created were meant to nourish the ‘fearfully and wonderful’ body of man. Eating more of His foods tends to allow our body to function as He intended. Sickness is not God’s design and when people eat more of the wonderful foods that Genesis 1:29 speaks of, we tend to function better and without the curse of disease knocking at our doorstep.

When we first started eating a vegan diet, our first thought was that this would be a very limiting diet. We were so wrong; today we actually eat a wider variety of foods by being creative and appreciating that my Lord, my King of Kings, my Creator has a plan to prosper me and not cause me harm and that when I eat MORE of His foods my immune system has the ability to fight hard against disease. Hopefully, this article has given you “food for thought!”
